Artist – Hosze Chang
I love symbols. I create symbols on two dimensional surfaces to express my thoughts, feelings and ideas. I aim for simplicity and elegance in my creations. I often don’t start with any specific designs in mind but allow my mind to be unbridled and roam free with ink and parchment, uniting intangible thoughts with worldly materials, blending the intellectual and the spiritual.
In my creations I see my subconscious, my hidden moods and my random thoughts. I see my soul in my own work. To me, all my creations are symbolic, springing from the unpredictable rapids and dark undercurrents of the subconscious, occasionally tempered by conscious and aesthetic objectives. The ways glass interacts with light give the forms an illusion of timelessness, as if the forms are both dynamic yet still. Gazing into the depths of a glass piece allow us to almost transcend time and perhaps see different things at different times. It is hard to determine if the object has changed or if we have changed.
